7 Easy ways to reduce your family's Toxic Burden

It can be so overwhelming at first, I get it! So here's some affordable ways to make HUGE changes in your home.

  • Air fresheners emit or cause the formation of numerous substances associated with negative health effects ranging from headaches & respiratory difficulty to cancer, neurotoxicity, and endocrine disruption.

  • I encourage you to look up the cleaner you currently have under your sink on EWG.org and see where it ranks. An easy homemade, and non toxic spray can be made by soaking lemon rinds in white vinegar for about a week, and voila! A multipurpose spray you can use throughout your whole home.

  • Most plastics, even BPA-free ones, can leach chemicals into our food. If you are still using plastic, definitely avoid microwaving your food in it!

  • Read every single label that comes into your home. The less ingredients there, the better. Research the ones you don't recognize and you'll start understanding the role each one plays in that product, and whether or not it's a good choice for your family

  • Chemicals migrate into water from old pipes, industry, agriculture, and other sources. Things like pesticides, lead, PFAS, chlorine, heavy metals, phthalates, fluoride, and pharmaceuticals can be contaminating the water your family is drinking. Filtering your water is one of the best decisions you can make to improve your health. We're currently in the process of testing our well water at our new home and I'll share that process soon!

  • Dryer sheets are one of the first things I ditched on my journey! They are filled with artificial fragrance and contain chemicals that are dangerous to the health and irritating to the skin. Dryer balls are inexpensive and will also save you money in the long run!

  • Shoes are covered in bacteria & parasites. A 2017 study by the University of Houston showed that more than 26 percent of shoes examined test positive for C. diff. Shoes come off at the front door in our home!
