Advocate for Yourself

  1. Researching something when you need the information to make a decision quickly often results in a hasty decision. When you've taken the time to properly do your due diligence, you can make a level headed decision based in reason and research. My favorite search engine is duckduckgo and I like sites like pubmed and ncbi for peer reviewed studies.

  2. Asking questions should come second nature to us, but it often doesn't. Having a degree does not give someone the sole proprietary knowledge over your health or your child's health. You know yourself/your child better than anyone else. If you have a provider who gets offended or annoyed when you ask questions, that's a red flag.

  3. I can't emphasize how important it is to be armed with the tools in your medicine cabinet to be able to effectively treat ailments as they arise. Early intervention is key when treating holistically.

  4. Piggy backing off of number 2 - having respectful boundaries in place is important. If you have a provider who belittles, uses coercion, or tries to manipulate you by playing off your emotions (if you love your baby you will do xyz)...red flag. A phrase to keep in your mind is "thank you for your recommendation, I'd like to do a little more research before we make a decision".

  5. Root cause healing. Fixing the symptoms of an ailment without getting to the root of WHY is like scooping water out of a sinking boat without patching the hole. Symptoms are your body communicating with you -- don't silence them!
