As we round out our first week back to school, I just want to encourage the homeschool mamas out there.
I know a lot of you have been thrown into this unexpectedly.
I know many of you don't feel equipped to teach your child.
I know some of you are feeling overwhelmed with all the different curriculum choices that are out there.
I know social media feeds can make you feel like you have to have the perfect school room with all the vintage maps on the wall and fully stocked school carts from Ikea....
But let me bring you back down to reality.
None of us feel equipped or able. Not even the seasoned homeschool mamas.
Reality check: YOU are the absolute best teacher for your child because you have chosen to do so & because no one knows that child better than you.
Your school room doesn't have to be a room at all. We do school at our kitchen table in the middle of our 1600 sq ft 70s ranch house with all the outdated shades of brown galore. No pinterest worthy images here.
My 2.5 y/o interrupts often and my girls don't always remember to wait their turn to ask a question when I'm working with the other (new concept this year!😅) And come this fall, we'll throw a newborn onto my boob for the fun of it. 🙃
I actually really don't enjoy teaching my children. Patience is not one of my strong fruits of the Spirit 😬. Homeschool has never been a passion of mine, but I am convicted that this is the best for MY children. Despite what the culture says.
So, anxious mama, take a step back. Take a deep breath. Let go of all your preconceived ideas of perfection and comparisons. Know that the Lord hand picked you to be mom to that child, and He will equip you to step into the role of educator.
You will fail often. There will be hard days. There will be tears & patience lost. You will question yourself. But oh!...the joy that far outweighs the struggles of homeschool. These are the formative years, and you are stepping into the trenches with your child & saying, "let's do this together".
