Motherhood

Motherhood.

It is unique. There is nothing like it in the world. We overcomplicate it, yet mothers have been raising young for thousands of years. It's a very simple, yet also extremely complex love.

It is a privilege, as well as a duty. Sunrise to sunset, and everywhere in between.

It's knowing your childs cry or squeal amongst a crowd of other children.

It's wondering how in the world the baby could be awake again, but crawling out of bed and cradling them back to sleep as they breathe in your scent.

It's sitting at the edge of your toddler's bed at naptime, even though you have 10 other things on your immediate to do radar. Watching their eyes get heavy as they drift off to sleep, wondering how you got so lucky to be their momma.

It's knowing every detail about them. Every birthmark, scar, and misplaced freckle.

It's being their advocate.

It's being humble enough to apologize and ask for forgiveness when you raise your voice or treat them unfairly.

It's constantly wishing for a break, but then only wanting to be near them when you finally get them all to bed.

It's desiring to do better the next day, and realizing you will always fail in your flesh without the Lord's help.

It is being their safe place.

I've been a mother for 8 years and it has been the most sanctifying, utterly exhausting, joyful, painful, exciting season of my life.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms, moms to be, and those desiring to be moms. Pull those kiddos close today and be thankful. The godly training of our kids is our first and most pressing duty. 🌸💜

"Children are not a distraction from more important work, they are the most important work"

- CS Lewis

“The process of shaping the child, shapes also the mother herself. Reverence for her sacred burden calls her to all that is pure and good, that she may teach primarily by her own humble, daily example.”

- Elisabeth Elliot
